The story of Hide Society Africa began in 2020 in Sodwana Bay—a place where the primary dunes of the Indian Ocean meet the wild expanses of the African bush. It was here, while completing their professional diving qualifications, that Josh and Andries first met.

Sodwana borders the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, and their days were spent split between the depths of the ocean and the footpaths of the reserve. They spent countless hours on their own unscripted walking safaris, navigating the park's edge among zebra, wildebeest, nyala, and bushbuck. It was during these walks through the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage site that they realized their shared reverence for the natural world.

Before this meeting, Andries had dedicated his career to the rigorous field of conservation, while Josh was raised within the industry of game farms and wildlife management. In the quiet of those walking safaris, they bonded over a singular vision: a way to celebrate the raw beauty of the wilderness while actively supporting the systems that protect it.
